Roady4Roadies 2020 Forced to Cancel

refund

Roady4Roadies events will not be proceeding on April 5th. Moshtix will refund all tickets. The decision to cancel the events nationally has been made in light of the pandemic currently gripping the country.

One of the worst affected industries is the live music sector, which has seen everyone's income and security vanish in a matter of days. As Roady4Roadies main audience and support base comes from the very industry now facing its darkest hour, we felt it was unreasonable for us to go ahead. We also had to consider our duty of care to all concerned.

At this stage there are no plans to reschedule later in the year, as there are vast number of shows and events looking to do so at that time. There is also the uncertainty surrounding the progress of COVID-19.

Please consider helping Support Act support our music workers get through this difficult period and be in a position to bounce back stronger than ever once the pandemic has passed, by donating part of your refund to help the men and women who make our dreams come true.

Moshtix will be issuing a refund for every ticket sold. We ask you you consider making part or all of this a donation to Support Act (whatever you can afford) https://crewcare.org.au/help/re-fund-my-refund

Roady4Roadies returns this April!

melbourne-finn-hargreaves_next-generation
13 cities around the country to host events in support of the men and women who put the show on

Roadies are amongst the most essential figures in the entertainment world. The reality is, no road crew = no show and it's with our mates in mind, and thanks to the overwhelming response to the inaugural event in March 2019, Roady4Roadies will return on Sunday, 5 April 2020 expanding from capital cities to regional centres with a total of 13 events taking place around the country.

Despite their hard work and dedication to the artists and events they work with and for, many roadies find themselves in precarious health and financial circumstances and Roady4Roadies shines a much-deserved light on the diverse range of highly technical and creative skills required of live production crew, while raising desperately needed funds to help those in crisis.

CrewCare co-director and co-founder Howard Freeman on behalf of the association's board says,

"In its first year, Roady4Roadies raised $71,500.00 from being staged in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth,""The net profit of $62,820.00 went to the Support Act 'Roadies Fund' to assist crew in crisis."

This year, Roady4Roadies events have been confirmed to take place in Adelaide, Brisbane, Darwin, Gold Coast, Hobart, Melbourne, Newcastle, Perth, Port Lincoln, Sunshine Coast, Sydney, The Entrance and Townsville.

The day commences with the Roady4Roadies Walk (a leisurely 4-5kms) culminating in a variety of family activities and performances at well-known entertainment precincts around the country. All walk participants receive a free t-shirt with sunscreen and water available along the route.

Support Act Crew Survey

Support Act Crew Survey

Crew are a key focus for Support Act, a charity that supports artists, roadies and others working in the music industry, and their families.

Over the past few years, more and more crew have been reaching out to Support Act for help, but they are keen to ensure that they are reaching everyone in need.

Their sense is that not everyone is accessing the services that are available, perhaps due to the resilient and unassuming nature of many crew. But as we know, working backstage can be a low income, high stress, insecure vocation and many of us battle with addictions and depression.

This has in recent years led to crew coming together for events like Roady4Roadies which raised over $62,000.00 for the Support Act 'Roadies' fund to assist crew in crisis.

Roady4Roadies 2019 Event Wrap Up

Roady4Roadies-2020_960x640

The inaugural Roady4Roadies proved a stunning success in so many ways! The national event, an audacious campaign held on March 10th in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth and March 24th in Adelaide, has raised over $65,470.00, with nett profit of $56,790.00 already going to the Support Act ‘Roadies fund’.

Shining a big bright spotlight on the diverse range of highly technical and creative skills required of live music production crew, Roady4Roadies also raised public awareness to the dire outcomes many of them now face. The work is high octane, high pressure and sometimes highly dangerous! The intense pressure of the job itself can often lead to chronic physical problems, financial difficulties and mental health issues.

One of the most pleasing aspects was to witness so many of our top professionals, from all areas of the music business, pulling together as a team. Promoters, publicists, managers, agents, venues and artists, all freely giving their time... and money! All working along-side each other with the best crew in the country, the best in the world.

ROADY4ROADIES MELBOURNE

The Melbourne event saw in excess of 300 walk from The Palais Theatre in St Kilda to Point Ormond and back to watch the Mark Seymour, Dave Graney & the mistLY, J.R. Reyne, Sisters Doll and Jarosite perform. Minister for the Creative Industries and Minister for Mental Health Martin Foley chose the Roady4Roadies event to announce the Victorian Government’s $100,000.00 grant for Support Act, the first time any government has done so, before mesmerising the audience with his lead rolling skills!

ROADY4ROADIES SYDNEY

The day in Sydney was held at The Bridge Hotel in Rozelle. Over 200 gathered to hear a few words from Shadow Minister for the Arts Tony Burke MP, Lindy Morrison from Support Act, author and Roady4Roadies Ambassador Stuart Coupe and Shadow Minister for Music and the Night Time Economy John Graham MLC before being entertained by performances by Brendon Gallagher and FOK ROK, then Mark Callaghan and Buzz Bidstrup from GANGgajang, who were joined by Ollie Bailey - the late Chris Bailey’s son (The Angels, GANGgajang) on a masterful rendition of The Angel’s “She Keeps No Secrets”.
